QWG2016: Transportation

Getting There

The Tri-Cities Airport located in Pasco (code: PSC) is served by Alaska, Delta, and United Airlines. There are daily flights to Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Denver, and San Francisco.

Approximate driving times to other nearby major cities are: Spokane (2 hours), Seattle (3.5 hours), Portland (3.5 hours), and Vancouver, Canada (6 hours). Sea-Tac (SEA), Portland (PDX), and Vancouver (YVR) airports offer many direct international flights, but bear in mind the additional driving time required to reach PNNL.

Getting Around

Rental car

Most major US car rental companies (Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National) operate at the Tri-Cities Airport. Given the layout of the area, a rental car is recommended. We urge workshop participants to carpool if possible.

Airport taxi/shuttle

Transportation between the airport and hotels is summarized as follows:

Red Lion: Provides a shuttle service. There is an Information screen in the baggage claim area of the airport with a phone. Dial the two-digit number (01) for the Richland Red Lion to connect with them to request the shuttle service.

Hampton Inn: Provides a shuttle service. There is an Information screen in the baggage claim area of the airport with a phone. Dial the two-digit number (04) for the Richland Hampton Inn to connect with them to request the shuttle service.

Courtyard by Marriott: Taxi service is available from Rad Cab for a $21 flat rate.

Homewood Suites: Taxi service is available from Rad Cab for a $21 flat rate.

Shilo Inn: Provides a shuttle service. Call the hotel upon arrival for pick-up from the airport. (Apparently this cannot be arranged in advance.)

M Hotel: No special service provided. Call any taxi company.

PNNL Guest House: No special service provided. Call any taxi company.

A list of taxi companies can be found from the airport webpage: http://www.flytricities.com/fly/ground-transportation. Two companies in particular will take online reservations in advance: A1 Taxi (schedulearide@tctransportservices.com and www.tctransportservices.com) and Rad Cab (reservations@radcab.biz). A1 Taxi can also be contacted free-of-charge from the special Information screen/telephone (07) in the baggage claim area at the airport. Depending upon the time of day, there will also likely be a few taxis waiting at the airport.

If you need help in making these arrangements, contact us and we would be glad to provide assistance.

Daily hotel bus

Daily transportation from the hotels in Richland to and from the lab for the workshop will be provided. Due to space limitations, only attendees who indicated a need for transportation with registration should use this bus. Information on pick-up time and locations can be found here: http://events.pnnl.gov/images/qwg2016/qwg_shuttle_map.pdf

Transportation to/from the social dinner will be provided.

Public transit

Public bus transportation between downtown Richland and PNNL is available during rush hour service. See the Ben Franklin Transit website for information (http://www.bft.org/).

Guest House

The PNNL Guest House is located on-campus and is a short walking distance to the workshop venue. Local food options are limited and travelling off-site will generally require another mode of transportation. Loaner bicycles are available to guests, and there is limited local public transportation service. Please see the Guest House FAQs for information (http://www.pnnl.gov/guesthouse/faq.stm, under the heading "Are grocery stores located nearby?").
